According to the legend, in the 15th century, Le Loi King was lent a mythical sort by the Dragon King to fight against a foreign invasion. One day after defeating the enemy, the King was on a dragon boat sailing around Luc Thuy lake, a giant turtle suddently appeared with a golden sword smell immersed from the water surface and asked him to return the magic sword to his master. Le Loi King tossed it toward the turtle, the turf catched the sword and descended back into the water. From then onwards, people renamed the lake to Sword Lake or Restored Sword Lake. It is a nice legend, isn’t? I’ve been in many Asian countries but for me, Hanoi has always been my favorite destination because here, I can both enjoy the busy atmosphere of a modern city as well as the unique traits of the old days. Despite all the legends and the profound meaning in Asian culture but Asian turtles are facing extinction right now and Vietnam is not exception. If you’re interested in this problem, you can not miss Cuc Phuong National Park. Cuc Phuong National Park is not only an attractive tourist destination but also famous for protecting the turtles. It is about 120 km away from Hanoi, located in Ninh Binh province. The park was established in 1962 and it is the first national park in Vietnam. To be considered as the largest nature reserve in Vietnam with the total of more than 22000 hectares, Cuc Phuong National Park has become one of the most important sites for biodiversity in the country. Cuc Phuong is home to an amazing diversity of flora and fauna. According to the recent survey data, the park has 2234 species of vascular plants and mosses inhabitants includes under 35 species of mamals and the 22 reptilian and amphibian. Some of them are listed in the Vietnam red book of endangered species.
